Connect to a workstation

Connect to a registered macOS or Linux host from the browser, or install VDO Workstation as the native client on your Mac. The host agent stays on the computer running your applications.

Before connecting

• Your VDO account must have access to the computer.
• The host must be online with capture and input ready.
• Check the host's supported OS, desktop and release limits in macOS setup or Linux setup.
• The network must allow the selected media transport, not just HTTPS login.
• Keep normal local access to Fedora available for any required GNOME screen-sharing approval.

If another operator is using the host, coordinate with them. Do not replace or restart their agent or session to obtain access.

Connect in the browser

1. Sign in at vdostream.io and open Computers.
2. Find the computer and check its readiness.
3. Use its normal connection action.
4. Wait for a live picture, then click inside the remote view.
5. Test pointer movement and keyboard input. Check the displayed transport and connection stats.
6. Use the available toolbar controls for fullscreen, audio, picture quality and displays.

Use a current browser with the required WebCodecs and transport support. Available formats and keyboard capture vary by browser; not every modern browser supports every path.

Connect with VDO Workstation on macOS

1. On an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 14 Sonoma or later, open Downloads > Workstation.
2. Install the signed app in Applications and launch it.
3. Start VDO sign-in and complete the normal browser approval requested by the app.
4. Choose an accessible computer in the native launcher and connect.
5. Focus the viewer and test live picture, keyboard and pointer input.

The published app's available controls follow its version and the host's advertised capabilities. Do not assume a local preview build's multi-window, device-forwarding or profile controls are available in the public download.

Check the workflow you need

Test audible sound, each required monitor and tablet behavior on the actual host/client combination. A host advertising an encoder or input capability is not a qualification of every GPU, display or physical device.

macOS hosts can encode ten-bit HEVC on supported paths. The browser's current desktop canvas is eight-bit output; receiving ten-bit video does not make that display path true ten-bit. Use a compatible native decoder and display for a qualified ten-bit workflow.

A separately qualified Linux host can provide Blackmagic or NDI reference capture to the native macOS client. Reference capture, native output and Sessions review are separate from the basic desktop connection.

Disconnect normally

Use Disconnect when finished and wait for cleanup before reconnecting or changing clients. Disconnect ends remote access; it does not log out the host's desktop or close its applications.
