Choose Editorial or Colour room
Audience
Use this page if you are creating a room and are unsure whether to choose Editorial or Colour.
Outcome
You will pick the room type that matches the review workflow before you share keys or invite viewers.
Steps
- Choose Editorial for browser-friendly review, collaboration, and lower bitrate sessions.
- Choose Colour for higher bitrate review, native player workflows, and colour-sensitive monitoring. Colour is peer-to-peer first for the primary media path when available.
- Use Editorial when many reviewers need quick access through a share link.
- Use Colour when the session needs higher bitrate, native app playback, and the lowest practical latency between Streamer and Player.
- Treat a Colour room like a direct site-to-site link between the streaming location and the viewing location. Stable routing, enough bandwidth in both directions, and low packet loss are part of the setup.
- Confirm the room type before copying the room key, share link, or player code.
- In VDO Streamer, select the room or paste the room key. The app follows the room profile returned by VDO.
Expected result
The room type matches the intended workflow before reviewers receive any access details.
Common failures
Colour was chosen for a browser review. Use Editorial when the priority is easy browser access and collaboration.
Editorial was chosen for colour-critical monitoring. Use Colour when the workflow depends on higher bitrate or native player review.
Colour latency is higher than expected. Check the path between the streaming site and viewing site first. Colour is designed around a direct peer path when available, so routing, packet loss, and available upstream bandwidth affect the result.
Streamer settings change after connecting. VDO Streamer follows the room profile returned by the platform.
Viewers received the wrong access detail. Share links are for browser viewers. Room keys and stream codes are for Streamer, Player, and Apple TV workflows.
