VDO Player getting started
Audience
Use this page if you review a VDO Session from a native player instead of a browser.
Outcome
You will have VDO Player connected to a room with the correct room key and stream code.
Prerequisites
- Access to the room.
- The room key.
- A stream code for your player role.
- VDO Player on Mac or iPad, or VDO TV Player on Apple TV.
When to use VDO Player
Use the browser when you only need quick review access. Use VDO Player when the session needs a native playback path, a dedicated review device, or output from a Mac player to Blackmagic hardware.
For Apple TV, use VDO TV Player. It is a passive viewer app for screening-room style review.
Install the player
- Sign in to VDO.
- Open Downloads.
- Select Player.
- Download the current build for your device.
- Install and launch the app.
Get the connection details
- Open the room in VDO.
- Open Share settings.
- Copy the room key.
- Copy or generate the stream code for the player or viewer role.
Room key identifies the room. Stream code identifies the allowed connection role.
Connect
- Open VDO Player.
- Enter the room key.
- Enter the stream code.
- Connect.
- Confirm the picture and audio match the source.
Expected result
The player joins the room and receives the active stream. If the room is not live yet, keep the player open and start the stream from VDO Streamer.
Common failures
The app asks for a code again. The stream code may have been regenerated. Copy the latest code from room share settings.
The room connects but no video appears. Confirm VDO Streamer is actively publishing to the same room.
Apple TV cannot connect. Use the room key together with the viewer code shown in share settings.
Mac output device is missing. Confirm the Blackmagic device is connected and visible to macOS before launching VDO Player.
